
OSCAR Radio was set up by Oundle School in 1998 with £70,000 from the Oundle Foundation and other generous donations from OOs notably including Sir Howard Stringer (Chairman, Sony Worldwide). Its first broadcast was in the November of 1998 from three studios installed in the Gascoigne building and marked the start of what has now been 18 broadcasts to Oundle and the surrounding area.
Recently, OSCAR expanded into a new broadcasting suite in Old Dryden, while retaining recording studios in the Gascoigne. This has allowed it to consolidate on its persona of the UKs leading school radio station, using advanced equipment usually only seen in small commercial or some university radio stations.
Board Of Directors
Chris Pettitt is the master in charge of OSCAR and is chairman of the board. However, in 2001 the school transferred more control to the directors. This team of nine Sixth Form pupils, assisted by their deputies from the lower years, are in charge of both the daily and long-term strategic running of OSCAR. Their position on the board of the only UK radio station run exlusively by 18 year olds holds serious legal responsibilities and gives an invaluable insight into the world of media and work. More...
In 2007 David Fuller left the school, he was the master in charge of OSCAR and it's chairman since OSCAR's conception (1998). Chris Pettit has taken over the post after David's very successful time at OSCAR Radio.
Special Shows
OSCAR has been part of a number of major school events including the 450 celebrations and the school's mock General Election. It also broadcasts the 'Unison Song' (or 'House Shout') annually in addition to inter-house debates. Other parts of school life such as Oundle Idol, productions from the Stahl and the first interview with the new Headmaster have also been featured.
